What You Should Include In A Travel Guide?

Traveling is one of the most popular activities around the world. Everyday, millions of people travel from one destination to the other. They may be travelling for business or pleasure. Whichever the case is, travel guides come in handy when one is travelling to a destination he hasn’t been to before. If you are a travel writer or a well-travelled person, you can write travel guides to help other travelers know what to expect when they visit a certain place. In this article, I will discuss some of the essential things that your should include in your travel guide write up.

While there is no standard length for travel guides, a well written one must include a number of things that will benefit the readers. First you have to know the audience that you are targeting, are they travelling for business, leisure, or even both? These two groups have different requirements from a travel guide. Generally, a good guide should talk about the following:

1. Climate of the area. Let the readers know what climate the destination experiences at different times of the year. This will help them know the best times to visit the area.




2. Give the top attraction places of the destination. Are there any beaches, museums, monuments, islands, etc that will entice the visitor? List the top attraction places in order to give travelers a reason to go for the trip.




3. Outline the average transport and accommodation rates in the destination, how much should visitors expect to pay? What types of foods are available in the destination? These are just some of the issues that you should bring out clearly in your travel guide.




4. Talk about the mode of communication, will visitors experience language barrier at their destination? Is the communication system well developed such that it is easy to keep in touch with the rest of the world? This is especially critical to business travelers who need to be constantly in touch with their offices at their home country.




5. What is the state of the country where the visitors are going, is there political strife? This is important as no one would want to get caught up in political strife in a foreign country.

These are the main things that a comprehensive travel guide should have.
