The Thrill of Travel TV

Travel shows on television are one of the most watched programs according to a number of surveys. Travel TV has in fact revolutionized the way in which people plan for their holidays. There used to be very little awareness about other cities or countries and their attractions among the public. Even educated people had a very low sense of awareness about far away lands. But travel programs on television have really put an end to such ignorance. These programs have literally been an eye opener for viewers. From the comfort of their living room, viewers could now visit destinations half way across the globe, learn about the customs and traditions of the people in that region, see the kinds of food they eat and generally get to know more about the place.

Many of these programs feature one destination per episode. On some occasions, if the place has a number of attractions to be covered, it might carry over to the next episode as well. Viewers are usually thrilled to visit a new town, city or country every time the program is on. This is one of the main features of the program that makes it so attractive. Even if people are used to traveling to different places, the sheer spread of the regions covered in these programs enables them to get to know places that they would never be able to visit during their lifetime. And for those who have never traveled much before or would never be traveling in the future, this is perhaps the only way in which they can see the other wonderful locations on this planet.

These programs also have a very good educational value. Children can experience their geography lessons coming to life right before their eyes. Lessons learnt in school are sometimes dull and dreary. But when the same content is presented in a rich audio-visual format, it grabs the attention of their young minds. It also helps them perform well in their studies and get better grades in their exams. Contrary to popular belief, watching television can be good for children. Of course parents need to still ensure that they watch the right stuff. Programs like travel TV need to be made a mandatory requirement in children’s educational curriculum.
