1. Have your passport in order. Ensure you have renewed your passport and it is valid for the length of your vacation duration. Make copies of the passport and store them in a safe place. It is wise to leave your trusted friend with a copy of the passport, leave one at your home, and travel with another one. This will prove handy in case you lose you passport while in the destination country.
2. Take the necessary medical tests and have your certificates ready. Most countries require you to have an immunization certificate against yellow fever and other tropical diseases. Confirm with your local travel agency on what health requirements you will be expected to fulfill.
3. Update your insurance cover and take travel insurance if you have not done so. You never know what may happen while you are on vacation. You may become sick, your luggage may get lost, and so on. Having travel insurance will spare you the frustrations when such events occur.
4. Learn about the destination and make a list of attractions and activities you would like to do. Your vacation should not be tied up to one activity alone. There are many things you can engage in and many sites to see. Get a travel guide on the destinations and know what attractions are available.
5. If you are carrying luggage, know the limit that is allowed at the airport. Extra luggage may attract higher fees thus making you pay more on your vacation. Contact the airline customer service and ask about their luggage weight requirements. If you are traveling with pets, confirm on the packing of the pet.
6. Finally, find ways of getting cheap travel to your destination. International travel can be an expensive venture especially if the travel tourist does not know how to get cheap tickets. Book your ticket a few months early in order to take advantage of cheap prices.
