Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Last night, I watched a movie of the 80’s. I had developed an interest for Steve Martin’s comedies. Hence, while sifting through his biography, I came across this film called ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’, starring Steve Martin and John Candy. I must admit it is one of the best laughs I have had in a long time!

The movie revolves around the experiences of an affluent business executive, Neal Page (Martin) and a shower curtain rings salesman, Del Griffith (John Candy). One belongs to the affluent society whilst the other, a common civilian who struggles to make ends meet. The duo’s on screen chemistry was mind-blowing. The innocent clumsiness of Del, seen in situations where he removes his socks in the car, and spills beer over Neal’s bed, were some sight to watch. The angered and frustrated reactions of Neal Page completed the comic element the movie was intended to deliver. The movie picks pace when Neal Page, is denied his business class travel seat in the flight, and in put in the economy class. Del, who had been a man who had traveled through Cheap Airline Tickets his entire life, ends up as Neal’s co-passenger. The events which follow lead to a rib-tickling experience for the viewers! The rental car scene was the most hilarious by any terms, as Neal is offered a car, which he discovers on reaching the parking lot, never existed! Del, on the other hand, loves being himself. He sees this point through with Neal as well, who complains of him in the hotel room. The movie was emotional too in bit and parts. Scenes, where Del’s talent as an amazing marketer of his curtain rings were amusing and hilarious, as he convinces people to buy them with eloquence and élan.

Adult Travel Tips

Monday, September 28th, 2009

There are a number of tours that are offered exclusively for adults in most tourist destinations across the world. In these adult travel packages, children are of course not welcome as most of the activity would not be catering to their requirements. They would feel out of place and would be better off staying at home. Many of the tours and cruises to summer destinations around the world offer such packages exclusively for adults. For instance, many of the cruises in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean have such adult packages. Many of the Eastern European countries also offer tours purely for adults. The exclusivity of these tours makes it more expensive than most of the other general tours.

Tours catering to the adult crowd are fairly different from other types of tours. For instance, there are no children to take care of in tours meant solely for adults. There is no need to organize special programs to keep children entertained either. The safety precautions needed to be followed when children are around also need not be taken into consideration. Moreover when parents do not have to worry about their children, they can devote more time towards their spouse and generally have a good time together. Many parents enjoy a second honeymoon during such vacations as these, where they have a chance to be away from their children for a while. In a way, it also becomes easy for the tour operators to handle tours without the children around. But on the other hand, children represent numbers. The more people they have on board, the more revenue the tours would generate. To compensate for the lack of children who would otherwise fill up the tour, the cost of the tickets on these special tours is hiked up considerably.

Most of the action on board is catered to meet adult requirements. There is a lot of action and fun. People have a chance to make new friends. The circle of acquaintance can be widened considerably. People also get to visit places along the tour that specifically cater to adults. Adult travel could be a very different form of experience than the ones that a person is normally used to.

Tips On Picking A Travel Agency

Monday, September 28th, 2009

The success of your trip can be compromised if your pick an incompetent travel agency to make your trip arrangements. Most people think that travel agencies are an extra cost when planning a trip. However, this is a misconception. In fact, you can save money and time when you get a good travel agency to plan your trip. Here are some tips that will help you identify a good agency.

First, shop around. Visit travel agencies offices in your area and enquire about their services. Look at the type of travel packages they offer and how much it will cost you to engage their services. Alternatively, compare the travel package plans of different agencies on the internet. While you may be looking to save on costs, the cheapest agency isn’t necessarily the best for you. Consider the quality of service and incentives offered by the agencies when selecting one.

Next, ask your friends, relatives or colleagues about travel agencies. Most people have engaged a travel agency at one time or the other when making their trips. Ask them what they liked about the agency and the quality of service they were provided with. Moreover, you can also ask for recommendations of other agencies that they may know.

Finally, if you are a member of a club, society or organization, you can enjoy good service from travel agencies that have established relationships with the organizations. You can also take advantage of the “members only” travel plans that are offered from time to time.

A good travel agency will ask you where you intend to make your trip to, how long you are planning to stay, and what travel budget you have in mind. Outline what your travel plans are and be honest. This will help the agency come up with an affordable transport and accommodation package. Moreover, the agency can also give you helpful information about your intended destination. If you cannot meet the costs of the travel agency, you can always walk out and look for other travel packages from other agencies. Most of the time, a travel agency will have discounts for tickets and lodgings since they buy these in volumes. It never hurts to inquire on the travel packages available from a travel agency.

Spotting good Travel Agencys:

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Those of us living in the information age are a blessed lot. Information is so easy to come by these days. In the current scenario, it is quite easy to spot good travel agencys. Almost all the agencies these days have their own website. Browsing through their site would give you a fairly good idea about their company and the tours that they offer. Browsing online for different agencies is far less time consuming than searching for them offline. Without the help of the Internet, you would have to visit each agency in person which might not be feasible all the time. Browsing through magazines and newspaper ads may not reveal much about the company either. On the other hand, a website would let you get a much clearer picture of the company and help you assess them better.

You can spend sometime online to browse through at least twenty or thirty different websites and keep track of the ones that impress you the most. From this, you can shortlist around five agencies and give them a closer look. You should once again go through their entire websites in details, read the fine print, study their operations and get to know them better. You can then give each of them a call and talk to their staff to get a feel of their attitude towards their customers. A very courteous and responsive staff would be a good sign. On the other hand, if the staffs are indifferent and callous in their approach, it directly reflects on the unprofessional nature of the agency. So a telephone conversation could further help you to narrow down your choice.

The final step would be to meet them in person if the agency has an office in your neighborhood. You may not always be able to find an online agency that has an office in your city, but if they do have one, you can take the opportunity to visit them. The ambience of the office, the attitude of the staff, the kind of help and assistance they provide their clients, and the volume of business they do, are all indications of their professionalism. So a personal visit to these travel agencys could help you finalize on the one agency that you would like to use for your travel.

Creative Ways to Mark Travel Luggage

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Whenever you are traveling, there are certain ways in which you can mark your luggage set for easy identification especially during airport clearance. Cleary marked luggage enhances security and convenience besides preventing mistakes while picking luggage from the conveyor belt. The following are some creative ways to mark travel luggage, so as to avoid loosing it or exchanging it by mistake with that of another traveler.

You can use bright ribbons to clearly distinguish your luggage. Colorful ribbons make an easy identification mark if tied on the suitcases or bags, such that instead of looking out for a particular bag or suitcase, most of which look alike, you look out for your ribbon. Ribbons are cheap and readily available in most stores and it is very unlikely that a fellow traveler will have used the exact color you use.

You can also opt for luggage bands to mark your travel luggage. Luggage bands are manufactured and sold with the specific purpose of luggage identification. Most luggage bands are creatively designed to bear unique colors and artwork besides having a designated label to write your names. They are very useful in making your luggage easily identifiable from a distance, but more importantly, they help protect your luggage set from loss misplacement and stealing.

Luggage cords are also very useful in ensuring that not only is your luggage secure but also easily identifiable. Luggage cords allow you to firmly tie your luggage in such a way that even if the bag or suitcase falls, the contents cannot spill out. The color of the cord and your unique knotting becomes the signature by which you identify which luggage is yours and which one is not.

As you plan for your next vacation, ensure that you have one of these traveling accessories. They are vital items especially when you want to mark travel luggage, which is more than you can keep in your hand or on your lap at all times. Chances are, if you don’t mark your travel luggage, it will either get mixed up or lost before your vacation is over. That is not the best way of enjoying a deserved holiday, so mark up your luggage beforehand.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

With slow travel, you have a novel chance to experience the world. Traveling slow gives you the chance to enjoy and become a part and parcel of the local people, place, life and culture. It is not a secret of cheap travel but a chance for you to have more fun. It doesn’t only pay attention to the travel and quality of life, but a way of having things different from the usual mass tourism and trips offered in bulk.

You can focus on the differences within culinary traditions, local culture, natural productions and artesian. Slow doesn’t really mean ‘slow’ as such. You can have slow that is fast. Slow traveling can save you a fortune. For instance, rather than travel for 600 miles non stop and consume a lot of fuel, you can travel 200 miles in a day and save on gas. With time, you can do a lot while in a travel. You can shop for better and affordable place to eat and stay. Once you go slowly, you are able to discover things you could easily miss. You are able to engage the local people more as you make your trip. Slowing down saves you money and makes the travel more enjoyable.

Slow travel is different from the normal tour and has its advantages. You are limited to small groups of about ten to twelve people and the tour guides or operators have all the time to give you the personal attention you require. Catering to a huge group of guests means the guides will herd the travelers around for along time ignoring the need for everybody to have the best time and splendid experiences.

With slow travel, you have the chance to focus on the local life that tours ignore. You can now go shopping at a village market and sample local dishes and learn how to cook them. Tours focus on quantity and not quality, and they don’t keep the journey through the travel to a minimum to let you enjoy.

With slowing down, you don’t have to run to and from a must see location to another and once you get home you feel like you really need another holiday. Slower means you lodge in a location and sample the local occurrences as you join it. Most slow tours stay for a week at least in a place.
