A car on time saves money

My wife was very angry with me and she had every reason to be so. We were standing on the street, just next to our hotel, for the past 30 minutes or so. It was not just the passersby who were staring at us. Even the usher of the hotel was looking at us as we hailed cab after cab… none of them even bothered to slow down. Picking us up was out of the question. I had saved enough money for the trip and things were moving according to my budget. I should have listened to my wife and should have gone in for car rentals while we were planning our trip. I never knew that it would prove to be so tough to hire a cab. If I had done so, I might well have rented a car in advance. As things are turning out, it seems we cannot go to the casino and we might well have to stay back at the hotel this evening.

My wife had every right to be angry. This was not the first evening that we were stranded at our hotel in the evening because I did not have the foresight to opt in for cheap car rentals. Thankfully, during the other days I managed to pacify her by taking her to some exquisite restaurants in the locality (no need to mention that I burned a huge hole in my pocket in the process) and also taking her to the souvenir shops that were located at close quarters. We had specifically visited Las Vegas so that we could enjoy quality time at the casino for a couple of days. I have learnt my lesson and from the next time onwards I’ll opt in for auto rental well in advance.

Traveling abroad is a tough task, especially for people like me who are too confident about themselves. On most occasions I never book hotel reservations in advance and end up paying through my nose when I finally reach my destination. The fact is that most good but low priced hotels get booked far in advance and I am left with no other option apart from booking into a 5 star one. Believe me, this pinches a lot, especially when I observe that the money that I had earmarked for purchasing souvenirs, gets exhausted in paying for lodging costs. I might be a fool but I shall not repeat the mistake for the umpteenth time. This time I have decided to plan well in advance and ensure that I get the type of room that I want and also one that does not burn a hole in my pocket.

Even though technology is within a short distance from me, I had been overlooking it for so many days. It was only when my son pointed out about the internet to me that I woke up from my slumber. I use the internet for corresponding with my clients and also for browsing information about different things. It is really amazing that it never occurred to me that I could also use the internet to book my hotel reservation. There are many cheap accommodations available in the destination country and most of them have an online presence. I can easily visit their site and use their online calculator to book rooms that meets my requirements and is also within my budget. The usher of the 5-star hotel might be awaiting my tips this year too, but shall not get it. The reason is that I have already booked my rooms in a 2 star hotel in advance.

That special time of the year is just round the corner. Soon the room will be full of the cheerful sounds of my kids once they return back from school for their winter holidays. To be frank, I am as eager to see them as they are to see me. I know quite well that they will remind me of the promised winter holiday in the Caribbean. “It just cannot be true” I had mumbled to myself when my friend informed me about the astonishingly low rates. I have traveled to local and overseas locations many times in the past due to official work and also on leisure trips. If my friend thought that I would be so gullible, then he is mistaken.
